Kortmar has been an ANKC Breeder & Showring Exhibitor since 1992.
We started showing & breeding Alaskan Malamutes & then Shiba Inu came along 13 years ago & turned our lives upside down & now everything revolves around them! :-)
We pride ourselves on our well bred, well socialised pure bred, pedigreed Shiba Inu pups.
We health test (Hips, Elbows, Patella Grading & Eye Certification) all breeding dogs BEFORE breeding & supply copies of the parental results in puppy folders.

Breeder Questionnaire
Question. Do you health test appropriately (eg hip and elbow X-ray scoring, DNA testing), and understand the genetic issues that may affect your breed? Do you have sensible, sustainable breeding strategies in place to promote the health of your dogs and puppies?
Yes
We AVA Hip & Elbow xray, ORCHID Eye Exam & patella grade all digs at 12 m9nths old - prior to breeding.
Dogs that do not meet our minimum requirements are desexed & not bred from.
We also require bitches wishing to use our dogs at stud to be health tested to our minimum requirements.
Our results ate transparent & we supply copies of parental health testing results in individual puppy folders (for the parents of that pup).
Question. Do you ensure that your puppies are properly socialised?
Yes
Our pups are raised with us in the house & move put to our climate controlled kennels at 4-5 weeks - exact timing depends on the time of year & the litter itself.
Our puppy play yard has a variety of toys & enrichment equipment for the pups & various surfaces.
We spend a lot of time playing with / handling our pups & encourage visitors to play with pups under our supervision.
Question. Do you have any of the following: conditions of sale, health guarantee or warranty, de-sexing agreement, a buyer questionnaire, verbal or personal interview?
Yes
As per DPI requirements, our pups are sold on contract.
A draft copy of our contract is available on our website & a draft copy goes put with a formal puppy offer.
Question. Is ensuring that your puppies go to the right home a high priority? What type of measures do you take to ensure your dogs and puppies are going to go to loving homes?
Yes
We do not allocate pups at birth - we wait to get to know the pup & its personality & after selecting first for ourselves (which is why we breed) & try to match the pup with the planned family.
Question. Do you offer ongoing support?
Yes
We have a dedicated invite only FB page for our pups & keeling in contact.
Our Shiba owners also provide support to each other & arrange meet ups.
We provide extensive documentation about how to look after your pup & our Breed Info Guide is honest & does not shirk from the bad traits as well.
Question. Do you offer pet insurance?
No
Not currently but it can be arranged.
Question. Do you assist the buyer with re-homing an animal that was purchased from you if they are unable to keep it?
Yes
A contract requirement that dogs are returned to us for rehoming, not on sold.
